The Resource Centre was founded as an antenna of the European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR) in Luxembourg. It has the same development missions as the Cultural Routes of the European Council. The regional centre in Sibiu works towards the development of itineraries in the South-East of Europe and the South of the Caucasus in particular. These territories have an important priority for promoting cultural cooperation within Romania. The cultural routes of the fortified churches and the Orthodox religion are some examples of current projects.

Objectives

The Resource Centre team, who have been trained by EICR, are working to bring assistance to those establishing projects, as well as helping students, young citizens and anyone who is willing to put in practice the values of dialog and cooperation using the tools provided by the cultural routes, travel and knowledge of European values. One of our other tasks is providing informing to the wider public, as well as establishing activities with and for them.

Services

The Resource Centre is a source of information, advice and exchange of best practice. It is a meeting point which welcomes organisations (associations, federation of associations, public institutions, private operators, etc), who are interested in the European Cultural Routes and who want to put them into practice in their territory. The library of the Resource Centre is available to anyone during the opening hours and users are able to access material on cultural heritage, history, architecture, cultural tourism, education and research, photography.

Activities

-Initiating projects to facilitate the collaboration of organisations who have an interest or experience in protecting and developing European and Romanian heritage.

-Organizing meetings, conferences and discussions about European heritage and cultural tourism.

-Proposing training for the methodology of certification.

-Promoting the existing cultural routes and the cultural events related to the route, in Romania and abroad.

Casa Luxembourg

The Resource Centre of Sibiu is located at the first floor of Casa Luxembourg. This historical monument was restored through the financing of the Grand-Duché in Luxembourg and it was inaugurated in the presence of His Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess in 2004.
