The settlement was first mentioned in 1332 in a document from which we find out that Klosdorf belonged to the Abbey of Cārța, together with Criț and Meșendorf; later, around 1500 it was included in the Seat of Sighișoara.

The church devoted to Saint Nicholas appeared in a document in 1353. Only the font was preserved from the first church, since the actual one was built between 1521 and 1524. Ștefan Ungar was the master in charge with the works, as we find out from the inscriptions on the back of the altar: „In 1524 this building was completed with my help, Master Ștefan Ungar: Sighișoara”. The new building was designed to be a hall-church, its nave was covered with a ribbed-star vault and the choir, which had the same height as the nave, was covered with a star semi-calotte with ribs. The access was made through the western portal which ended in a flat arch on consoles. An interesting fact is that the entrance was provided with a portcullis, the buttresses that flank it resembling two massive and prominent pillars annexed to the west side. The buttresses supporting the walls of the nave and choir on the outside end at the top with flat arches that hide the machicolations over which there are embrasures. On the north side of the choir was annexed a vestry vaulted with a semicircular arch disposed longitudinally.

The precinct was built together with the church and it includes four towers covered with oblique roofs. The entrance to the precinct is made through the southern curtain wall near the tower. Inside, the wall passage was covered with a shed roof whose canopy was protected by a narrow roof of tiles.
Inside the church were preserved painted wooden balconies from the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1716 the painter Andreas Herman from Sibiu built the Baroque altar on which the organ was placed in 1832.

Between 1816 and 1819 the sexton’s house and the belfry were built on the southwest corner of the precinct. The house collapsed in 1996 but a few years later it was rebuilt and turned into a museum.
