The village was mentioned for the first time in 1348. Together with four other villages it was part of the settlements claimed by the Abbot of Mănăștur and towards the end of the 14th century became a free village of the Seat of Sighișoara.

Shortly after obtaining freedom, the community here built a hall church with a prominent polygonal choir covered with six star vaults and supported by six buttresses on the exterior. The initial vaulting of the nave remained unknown. The pointed chancel arch is supported by two annexed pillars which were incorporated in the eastern wall of the nave. At the beginning of the pointed arch there are two simple consoles made of two moldings of retiring rectangular section. Probably the church was built together with the fortified precinct. From the traces that were kept we can assume that the curtain walls were oval. The only tower left is the one on the east side. It is small and on the upper part, directly on the canopy of the walls, it has a wall passage made of timber. The roof has the shape of a truncated pyramid over which rises a wooden lunette that shelters the bells.

The nave was transformed between 1855 and 1868 by adding four pillars which unload double arches supporting the sailing vaults. The neo-Gothic altar is from 1895 and the organ was placed on the west loft in 1910.
In 1927 architect Franz Letz projected the tower from the west façade of the church; it had a wooden gallery on consoles where the bells were later moved. The entrance of the old tower on the east side of the precinct was walled in at an unknown date.
