26 jul 2008 AD

Karpat Klezmer is a newly formed group comprised of some of the best young musicians playing klezmer music, traditional music of the Jews of Eastern Europe.

This group plays in the styles typical of the old Jewish musicians of Romania, Ukraine, Poland, and Hungary. The band is comprised of violinist Jake Shulman-Ment from New York City, one of the top interpreters of klezmer violin on the international stage, Samuel Maquin of Paris, one of Europe's best klezmer clarinetists, violinist Eleonore Biezunski of Paris, active in the Jewish music scene in Paris as well as New York, and multi-instrumentalist Eleonore Weill of Paris, who specializes in a variety of musical styles, both folk and classical.

FOCUS
Copsa Mare / Grosskopisch
A free commune of the old Fundus Regius, Copsa Mare used to have some of the most vast and famous vineyards of the region, "The Wine Country". Two churches are mentioned as being used in this town. In the early 14th century, the holy service was recorded as being held in a three-nave gothic basilica; a 1283 document introduces the hypothesis of an earlier church.
