Transylvania, with its name coming from Latin ultra silvam (beyond the forest), is one of the most interesting and surprising regions of Romania. Its German, Hungarian and Romanian cultural traditions play a great role in its cultural and ethnic diversity. The Transylvanian plateau is surrounded by mountain peaks and drained by sparkling rivers which makes it both a pleasant place for a relaxing holiday with a landscape pleasing to the eye and an exciting place for adventure-seeking travellers.

Frequent trips and travels [be it business, holidays or just a simple walk] and affordable digital cameras are making every traveler to return home with enough photos to torture family and friends with them for the rest of their lives.Travelers are taking pictures for various reasons. Some of them just for having a proof of "yes, that’s me right there next to Big Ben", others want to preserve memories of places and people who had in impact upon them. Only a small percent are trying to give an artistic view
However, travel photography is, first of all, an art, then a souvenir, a kid of "don’t forget it" and, eventually, a business. As a photographer you will see through a different eye the places you are visiting and will be … to show a personal view through the lens. We must not forget a small but significant detail: for a great number of people who cannot afford traveling, your camera could be the only window towards the wide world. Your eyes will be their eyes, too.

Anyone can push the button of an expensive camera. What makes the difference is the photographer‘s perception of the surrounding world.
The Photoraid project, started in 2003, is a fortunate blending between photographic and tourist experiences. Workshops organized within the project are located in Transylvania, in a landscape that recalls the Middle Ages: flowery fields, woods and meadows stretching over hills, fortified churches, quiet villages that still observe ancient traditions and tell stories and legends.
