17 may 2008 AD

Between 22-25 of May 2008, Sibiu will be the host of the first edition of the International Contest of Classic and Contemporary Dance organized by the Union House of Culture, event that wants to become a tradition for Sibiu.

The contest has two sections of age: seniors, where there are already 23 participants aged between 21-26 years, and juniors where there are already 12 competitors aged between 15-20 years who confirmed their participation.  The competitors can participate in the contest alone or in a duet, as they wish. The participants come from Austria, Italy, Germany, Japan, Romania and Australia.

The contest will have three stages. The first stage in which the competitors will have to perform fragments from a compulsory classic repertory is eliminatory. In the second stage, the organizers want to bring on the stage original contemporary choreographies. In the last stage, the finalists have to perform a step en deux or a solo variation, as they wish, from the classic repertory that had been imposed to them. According to their scores, the jury will decide the winners and the prize award will take place on the 25th of May, at 7 pm.

FOCUS
Biertan / Birthaelm
The folks of Biertan, sensible people but with a tendency to be on the stingy side, claimed that the people of Medias, who were up to no good, had tricked them. The story goes that, long ago, representatives of the two burgs were sent to the King so he would decide which one of the two would be the capital for the seat of the county.
